A devastating fire that erupted in Karachi's Ahsanabad area was brought under control after an hours-long struggle by firefighters on early Satuday morning. The blaze ravaged dozens of shanties, leaving many families displaced.

The victims stated that no casualties had been reported due to the fire, but it engulfed at least 30 huts, reducing their household items to ash.

Victims of the fire urged the authorities to provide immediate assistance, as they lacked essential necessities such as shelter, bedding, and food in this harsh winter.

The affected individuals said they have no means of protecting their children from the cold.

“We are originally from Sukkur and Shikarpur and we don’t beg, we sell utensils and clothes for our earnings, but we don’t have sufficient money to prevent our children from winter,” said victims.

In an unrelated incident, a wildfire broke out on Dec 18 in Khokharapar Union Council and parts of Achhro Thar, killing 180 animals, and burnt-out crops.

The fire reportedly began from the Indian border and ravaged the guar crop and hundreds of trees of ber, kunbhat, Kandi, rohira, and phog. However, the fire also killed thousands of wild birds, including peacocks, partridges, doves, crows, and sparrows.

The villages demanded immediate compensation for their losses and measures to prevent such incidents in future.
