ISLAMABAD: The first round of talks between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ended inconclusively, sources confirmed to local news channel.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi led the negotiations on behalf of the federal government, meeting with PTI leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif. During the discussions, PTI reiterated its demand for the immediate release of the party's founder, Imran Khan, who has been in detention since August of the previous year.
The PTI representatives also rejected the government's proposal to hold a sit-in at designated locations such as Parade Ground or Peshawar Mor in Islamabad.
Sources revealed that the Interior Minister is expected to brief Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the outcome of the talks. There is also the possibility of a subsequent round of negotiations between the two sides in the near future.
A large convoy of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters, led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, has entered Islamabad. The convoy, which includes numerous vehicles, is accompanied by protesters waving PTI flags.
The event was documented in a video posted on the official PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa X (formerly Twitter) account, showcasing the significant presence of party supporters as they make their way towards the capital.
Earlier today, Barrister Gohar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Barrister Saif met Imran Khan for approximately 90 minutes.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Barrister Gohar stated that the protest call given by the PTI founder is final and has not been withdrawn.
When asked about negotiations, the PTI Chairman remarked, "Yes, negotiations are underway; details will be shared soon, InshaAllah."
