The moon for the holy month of Ramadan was sighted in Pakistan on Saturday, with the first fast to be observed on Sunday, March 2.
Millions of Muslims across the country will begin a month of dawn-to-dusk fasting, spiritual reflection, and charitable activities.
Markets are bustling as people prepare for the holy month, while mosques have been cleaned and decorated.
The government has announced special arrangements, including reduced working hours, traffic management plans, and Ramadan bazaars to provide essential items at subsidized rates.

President Asif Ali Zardari, in his Ramadan message, urged the nation to support those in need. “We must go beyond our means to help the underprivileged.
These values strengthen our society,” he said. He also emphasized that Ramadan fosters patience, unity, and self-discipline.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for compassion and solidarity during the holy month. “Ramadan teaches us patience, gratitude, and sacrifice. We must extend support to the less fortunate,” he said. He also expressed solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine and Kashmir.
Authorities have put security measures in place to ensure smooth observance of Ramadan.
