The Foreign Office (FO) on Friday clarified that the defence agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will not be used against any other country.
Speaking at the weekly press briefing, FO spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan described the accord as a landmark step that strengthens regional peace and stability.
He noted that defence cooperation has been a cornerstone of Pakistan-Saudi relations since the 1960s, and the new agreement gives formal structure to this long-standing partnership.
“This agreement is about consolidating a trusted defence relationship that has existed for decades,” he said. “It is defensive in scope and is designed to contribute positively to peace and stability in the region rather than being directed against anyone.”

Khan also said that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar received a call from Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty late Thursday, during which the Egyptian official congratulated Pakistan on the signing of the accord. According to Khan, both ministers exchanged views on regional and international matters and underlined the shared need for security, stability and economic progress.
The FO spokesperson further highlighted that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share deep cultural, religious and political bonds. He said both countries’ leaderships are determined to advance the relationship to new levels, while Pakistanis hold a deep reverence for Saudi Arabia as the home of Islam’s holiest sites and respect the Saudi royal family for their custodianship of Makkah and Madinah.
