The Gilgit-Baltistan police chief on Monday prohibited personnel from using TikTok to ensure discipline and decorum.
A notification issued by the office of the inspector general stated: “In order to maintain discipline, uniformity and dignity of the force, it is hereby directed that no GB police officer/official shall use social media platform (TikTok).”
The order instructed all district police officers and unit heads to inform subordinates of the restriction, warning that any violation would invite disciplinary action.

The directive follows a series of similar measures taken by other law enforcement agencies in the country. In July, two constables of Islamabad’s Security Division were suspended and faced inquiries after uploading TikTok videos in uniform, while several others were cautioned to delete their accounts.
Earlier this year, Punjab Police warned personnel against posting “offensive views” about the state on personal social media accounts.
By September 2024, both Islamabad and Punjab police had introduced formal policies restricting officials from expressing opinions or making statements on online platforms, placing responsibility on senior officers to monitor compliance.
