Sindh Police has spoken publicly for the first time in 19 days about the Mir Raza murder case, releasing its statement and medical reports as a high-level team reviews medical, digital, forensic and other evidence.
Raza, 25, was reportedly abducted from PECHS before his body was discovered in bushes near a wedding hall in Gulistan-e-Johar on July 29.
While there was initially uncertainty over whether he had been murdered or died by suicide, the second post-mortem supported his family’s long-held claim that he was murdered. The investigation has come under intense public scrutiny, particularly after the Sindh police chief acknowledged earlier investigative shortcomings.
According to the police, investigators are reviewing two post-mortem reports, a final report and three chemical analysis reports, the latest of which was received on August 17. The team has identified discrepancies requiring clarification and is seeking further information from relevant institutions.
Authorities have approached the Punjab Forensic Science Agency to examine mobile phone and smartwatch data, while the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has been asked to look into issues involving digital currency. Apple has also been contacted for assistance in accessing Raza’s phone.
Police said resolving the questions raised by the chemical analysis report could help establish connections between different pieces of evidence and advance the investigation.
However, family lawyer Jibran Nasir expressed concern over the police’s repeated references to ambiguities in the medical and chemical reports.
He called for a transparent investigation based strictly on the available evidence and cautioned against reviving the suicide narrative, warning that any attempt to push such a narrative could seriously damage the credibility of the Sindh government and police.
