A woman who went missing from Islamabad 17 years ago has been reunited with her family after being located at an Edhi Centre in Karachi.

According to the Edhi Foundation, 27-year-old Kiran was handed over to her father after her identity was confirmed with the help of Punjab Safe City authorities. Kiran had disappeared as a child when she was 10 years old.

During the reunion, Kiran told officials she had left home to buy ice cream but lost her way. Someone later brought her to the Edhi Centre in Islamabad. After some time, the late Bilquis Edhi brought her to Karachi, where she grew up under the organisation’s care.

Kiran said she received both religious and regular education during her years at the Edhi Centre and described her stay there as “pleasant and peaceful.” She expressed joy at reuniting with her parents, calling it the most important day of her life.

Shabana Faisal, the in-charge of the Edhi Centre, said they had made repeated attempts to locate Kiran’s family, even sending her to Islamabad several times by bus, but without success. She said that in recent days, 12 missing children from across the country had been reunited with their parents, and Kiran was the fifth girl from Karachi whose family had been traced.
