Renowned scholar Mufti Tariq Masood has asked controversial figure Sahil Adeem to apologise for making derogatory comments about women, who represent 50 percent population of the country.
The controversy arose when the self-claimed cleric declared that 95 percent women in the country are "illiterate".
The insensitive remarks from Sahil came during a private news channel's show Mukalma, in which writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar was also invited as a guest to discuss women rights and human rights.
During the show, Sahil asked the public to research on basic knowledge between men and women by taking a sample of 100 of both genders each.

"You will find 25 men out of 100 illiterate, fifty men would be 50-50 [neither educated nor illiterate] and 25 would be educated. It's a sample you can check from anywhere in Pakistan," he said.
"[...] And you will find 95 percent women out of 100 illiterate," the controversial public speaker added.
Responding to the remarks, Mufti Tariq said that Sahil had committed a mistake and he should apologise.
The scholar also lauded girl Azba who slammed Sahil and Khalil during the show for their misogynist remarks and asked them to justify their comments with logic.

"They were scolding this girl. One becomes frustrated when you don't give him/her answer to their question... you can't issue a fatwa on anyone. Sahil Adeem had committed a mistake and he should apologise," Mufti Tariq said.
"Girls are more intelligent than boys even though they are far ahead than boys in both fields; Islamic education and academic education," he added.
