The federal government on Wednesday announced a three-day public holiday from May 26 to 28 on the occasion of Eidul Azha.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved public holidays from Tuesday to Thursday for the religious festival.
Pakistan will celebrate Eidul Azha on May 27 after the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting of the Zilhaj moon on Sunday.
The committee said moon sighting testimonies were received from Karachi, various cities in Sindh, Mardan, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and other parts of the country.
Eidul Azha, observed on the 10th of Zilhaj, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command and marks the culmination of Haj, one of the five pillars of Islam.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is also expected to observe Eidul Azha on May 27, according to local media reports.
