The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert, warning of unusually high temperatures across the country from April 26 to 30 due to the development of a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere.

According to the advisory, the weather system will begin forming on April 26 and is expected to affect most regions by April 27. Daytime temperatures in southern areas—including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan—are forecast to remain 5–7°C above normal through May 1.

Meanwhile, central and upper parts of the country—including Islamabad, central and upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan—may experience temperatures 4–6°C above normal from April 27 to 30.

Relief is anticipated starting May 1, as a new weather system could bring rain, thunderstorms, and hail to northern and upper regions.

Authorities have urged the public, particularly vulnerable groups, to avoid exposure to direct sunlight and stay hydrated. Farmers are advised to adjust wheat harvesting schedules and ensure protection for livestock.

The PMD also warned of accelerated snowmelt in northern areas and potential risks from strong winds, dust storms, and lightning on April 30 and May 1.
