As millions of pilgrims prepare for Hajj 2025, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has rolled out extensive heat protection initiatives to safeguard the health and well-being of worshippers amid forecasts of extreme temperatures.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, in partnership with the Hajj Awareness Centre, has launched a large-scale public awareness campaign aimed at educating pilgrims on how to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses.

A detailed safety guide has been issued, highlighting three key precautions: Avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak sunlight hours, and use head coverings or umbrellas for shade.

Stay hydrated by increasing water intake, limiting physical exertion, and resting in shaded or cool areas.

Remain calm and avoid strenuous activity to prevent heat exhaustion and dehydration.

Authorities have already implemented several cooling measures in the Grand Mosque and other holy sites, including misting systems, shaded resting zones, and cold water stations.

Additionally, Saudi Arabia is introducing a range of innovative strategies to combat the rising temperatures:

Air-conditioned tents in Mina and Arafat for greater comfort and safety. Wearable sensors to monitor pilgrims for signs of heat stress. Improved crowd management systems to reduce congestion in high-risk zones.

Roads near sacred sites are being covered with white cooling materials to lower surface temperatures. Heat relief stations will distribute umbrellas and water to pilgrims throughout the Hajj.

These comprehensive efforts reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to ensuring a safe, smooth, and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage experience despite the challenging climate conditions.
