Heavy rain coupled with thunderstorm is likely to hit Karachi from today (Wednesday) evening, according to the Pakistan Meteorologist Department (PMD).
The weather system entered in Balochistan would impose significant effects on Sindh, under weather conditions some far-flung areas of the port city are likely to witness hailstorms as well, the Met office said.
An official from the weather department, Anjum Nazir Zaighum said, "Latest radar observations show rain bands of light and moderate intensity approaching Karachi from the west-southwest."
He added that light and moderate showers are expected within one to two hours.
Meteorological analyst Jawad Memon said that weather activities began in the metropolis, indicating that the system would start affecting Karachi soon and downpours would start a bit earlier than predicted.
He added that the Western disturbance in coastal areas of Balochistan has been producing clusters of rain, bearing clouds, thunders and lightning that will lash Karachi soon.
On the other hand, PMD chief Sardar Sarfaraz said several areas of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Sanghard, Padidan, Dado, Jaccobabad, Khairpur, and Mithi are expected to receive heavy rain with thunderstorms in the evening.
As per the forecast, the upcoming system will be more powerful than the previous one, and under the influence of the system Karachi is expected to witness lightning strikes too.
Additionally, the Meteorological Department predicted that moderate and heavy rain in Karachi, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Sukkur, and Larkana would continue on April 18 and 19.
