Amid scorching weather in the port city, the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) predicted that heavy rain with thunderstorms is expected to hit Karachi today and tomorrow (Thursday and Friday).

According to the Met office, storms are also likely to lash the metropolis before the showers.

A day earlier, dust storm hit various parts of Karachi, with rain also reported in the suburbs of the megalopolis.

Earlier, the weather department forecasted that various parts of Sindh including Karachi would receive thundershowers from June 26 to July 1.

However, the prediction for Karachi was not successful as the city was reeling under intense heat.

As per the weather advisory, the monsoon currents from the Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal and a low pressure of air from south of Indian Gujrat are likely to entre eastern parts of Pakistan on Thursday.

Under the influence, Mithi, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Tando Allahyar, Badin, Thatta, Karachi, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Nausheroferoze, Khairpur, Dadu, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Larkana are expected to receive thundershowers.

Karachi has been in the grip of hot weather for a week with over 30 people succumbing to the heatwave.

However, Commissioner Karachi Hasan Naqvi refuted the claims by rescue officials.

He said a total of 10 deaths were reported from heatstroke on Monday and Tuesday.
