How much increase is expected in govt employees' salaries in upcoming budget?

Pakistan's new government is set to unveil its first budget for fiscal year 2024-2025 in June, sources said on Saturday.

Sources claimed that the ruling coalition is mulling at least a 10 to 15 percent increase in salaries of government employees, while it is also deliberating on raising pensions for retired officials. 

Meanwhile, Employee Old Age Benefit (EOBI) is also under consideration on the ruler's table. 

Apart from this, pension reforms are also likely to be introduced to reduce the pension burden on the national exchequer.

Sources said that the upcoming budget will be created in light of conditions that have been given by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to unlock a fresh bailout programme. 

However, the matter of increasing salaries will be discussed with provinces as well.

Sources added that the final decision will be taken after reviewing the recommendations of the Ministry of Finance.
