Husband, wife arrested for abusing maid released on bail in Karachi

A Karachi court on Monday granted bail to a couple accused of allegedly torturing their domestic worker, Zainab with a hot iron after she accidentally burned owner's dupatta. 

The case was heard in the Judicial Magistrate Sharqi court, where police presented the arrested couple before the magistrate. The plaintiff, Asia, testified that the girl’s feet and waist were severely burned during the incident.

The investigating officer said that Zainab is currently receiving treatment at Jinnah Hospital, although the medical report has not yet been submitted. The Firozabad police registered the case and arrested the couple following the allegations.

Police reported that the girl was subjected to merciless torture. In her statement, Zainab said that while ironing, her owner's dupatta caught fire, after which she was scalded with a hot iron and abused by the owner and her husband.

Her mother was informed on August 31 that Zainab was unwell and needed medical attention for her injuries.

After hearing the arguments of the lawyers, the court granted bail to the accused couple on bonds of Rs 30,000 each and ordered their release.
