Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan's sister Noreen Niazi responded to Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz's remarks regarding her son, Hassan Niazi. Hassan was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a military court over his involvement in the May 9 violence.

A video of Hassan Niazi went viral, showing him holding pant of an army uniform during the vandalism at Jinnah House on May 9, following Imran Khan’s arrest.

In a recent interview, Noreen expressed pride in her son, rejecting CM Maryam's claim that she must be disturbed by the sentence. “I am proud of my son,” Noreen stated. She added that Hassan took a stand against 'fascism.'

Commenting on the sentence, Noreen said, “Ten years in prison does not matter; it is not a big deal.” She further revealed that she told her son she would have been unhappy if he had received a lighter sentence.

Noreen criticised the severity of Hassan’s punishment, claiming it was handed down for a minor incident. She also pointed out the alleged double standards, referencing videos of CM Maryam where "anti-army slogans were raised," yet "she faced no consequences."

She accused the government of attempting to destroy the former prime minister’s life. She also referred to the security crackdown on November 26, stating, “It will never be forgotten.”

Noreen emphasised Hassan’s long-standing loyalty to PTI and his significant contributions to the party's struggle. She added, “Not only Hassan but also all PTI workers who have been sentenced have their morale high.”

Responding to criticism of Imran Khan’s sons living abroad, Noreen clarified that they reside with their mother, who is a UK citizen. “The opponents accuse Imran Khan of using the children of Pakistan for his politics while his own sons are overseas. They want to bring his sons here so they can also subject them to oppression,” she asserted.

Earlier, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz stated that Hassan Niazi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s nephew, disrespected the Army's uniform during the May 9 protests and has now been sentenced to ten years in prison.

Speaking at a cheque distribution ceremony under the Honhar Scholarships Program in Sargodha, CM Maryam said that Niazi's father, Hafeezullah Niazi and his mother must be devastated knowing their son will spend the next decade behind bars.

The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of respecting the Army uniform, highlighting that the military protects the country's borders and deserves reverence for their service.
