Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has expressed willingness to play a mediating role between Pakistan and Afghanistan to help establish peace, if he is released on parole, according to his legal team.
Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail, Barrister Dr Saif said he met Imran Khan to discuss the recent escalation in tensions between the two neighbouring countries. During the meeting, Khan reportedly expressed deep concern over the rising hostility and stressed that “conflict between two Muslim neighbours serves no one’s interest.”
Barrister Saif quoted Khan as saying that “issues between Pakistan and Afghanistan should be resolved through dialogue rather than confrontation.” He added that the PTI founder offered to contribute to peace efforts if temporarily released, saying he could help mediate between the two sides.
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, speaking separately to the media, said Imran Khan condemned all forms of terrorism and expressed solidarity with the armed forces and police personnel who have sacrificed their lives. He added that Khan reiterated his commitment to Pakistan’s unity, saying, “Pakistan is ours, and the army is also ours.”
Gohar also criticised the ongoing legal actions against the PTI founder and his wife, terming them politically motivated, and claimed that Khan is being tried multiple times for the same charges under the Toshakhana case.
