Incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan was brought to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) late Saturday night under tight security for a medical procedure.

Citing a senior physician at the hospital, a newspaper report said that the process continued into the early hours of the morning and was completed after midnight, after which Imran Khan was taken back on Sunday.

The report quoted the doctor as claiming that there was unusual activity at the hospital that night, with operation theatres and the anaesthesia area sealed off ahead of Khan’s arrival. However, it added, another doctor rejected this account and said the matter should not be discussed, warning that it could be turned into a political controversy by the PTI.

However, Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan said that she could not verify the reports. She questioned how such information had reached the media when the family had not been allowed to meet Khan for the past three and a half months.

“We haven’t been allowed to see our brother for months. How did this news reach journalists, and who told them about Imran?” she asked.

Another sister, Uzma Khan, said she last met Imran Khan on December 2 for around 20 minutes and that he did not raise any concerns about his eyesight during that meeting.

She added that in an earlier meeting, held about two months before, he had briefly mentioned an eye issue and said he was only being given eye drops. She said the family remained unaware of his current condition due to restricted access.
