More than 59,000 operations were carried out this year, resulting in the highest number of terrorists neutralised by security forces in the past five years, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Addressing a press conference at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, Director General (DG) ISPR, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary, highlighted that a record number of terrorists were eliminated during the outgoing year.

This marked the fifth press conference held by the DG-ISPR amid a sharp rise in attacks on security forces and law enforcement agencies in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A total of 59,775 operations were conducted this year, during which “925 terrorists” were killed and numerous others arrested—making it the highest figure in the past five years.

Lieutenant General Chaudhary noted that “more than 179 operations” were conducted daily, with security forces successfully capturing “73 high-value targets and most-wanted terrorists.”

He further disclosed that 27 Afghan terrorists were also neutralized. However, the battle for peace came at a cost, with at least “383 officers and soldiers embracing martyrdom.”

Discussing the ongoing tensions along the Afghanistan border, the military spokesperson underscored Pakistan’s commitment to peacekeeping efforts in Afghanistan, stating, “Everyone knows that Pakistan has wholeheartedly tried to maintain peace in Afghanistan.”

The DG-ISPR emphasized that evidence of terrorism can be traced back to safe havens in Afghanistan. He quoted the army chief, who has taken a firm stance on the matter: “Banned organizations operating in Pakistan are provided sanctuaries, support, and freedom to operate on Afghan soil.”

Highlighting Pakistan’s decades-long hosting of Afghan refugees, General Chaudhary reiterated Pakistan’s resolve: “We will take every measure to eliminate terrorist networks and ensure the safety of our citizens.”
