Pakistan’s former Indus Water Commissioner Shiraz Memon stated that due to the heavy river flow, India cannot block Pakistan's water for more than a few hours as it has no choice but to eventually release it.

On Sunday, India suddenly halted the water flow for Pakistan in the Chenab River via the Baglihar Dam without any ultimatum.

Subsequently, the water flow in the Chenab shrank to 10,800 cusecs on Monday from 87,000 cusecs on Saturday. Notably, the Baglihar Dam in Ramban has a capacity to store 300,000 cusec of water.

Former Water Commissioner Shiraz Memon said that India's Baglihar Dam doesn't have enough capacity to hold water for more than a few hours due to the heavy flow of water.

"India can block water in winter when the flow is low, but it is impossible to stop water in summer because the water flow remains high," he added.

Shiraz Memon said that India will have to come to the negotiating table on the water issue, as it knows that it cannot unilaterally terminate the agreement.

The former Indus Water Commissioner said that the government's decision to go to the United Nations is timely; it is important to keep the world aware of India's water aggression.

He said that a war between India and Pakistan is impossible because both are nuclear powers, saying, "India is our eternal enemy, so we will have to approach the World Bank, and neutral experts are the guarantors of the Indus Waters Treaty."
