Indian couple’s viral video misidentified as Pahalgam attack victims turns out to be fake

A video circulating on social media, falsely claiming to show Indian Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal and his wife vacationing in Pahalgam before being killed in a gunmen attack, has been debunked as fake.

The couple featured in the viral clip has come forward to clarify that they are alive and that the video is being misused.

According to reports, Indian media's narrative around the Pahalgam attack has once again come under scrutiny, as the video, originally portrayed as showing the slain officer and his wife, was in fact an unrelated travel vlog.

The individuals in the video, identified as Ashish Sehrawat and Yashika Sharma, are travel content creators who filmed the footage during their Kashmir vacation on April 14. Sehrawat is employed with the Indian Railways.

The couple released a statement revealing that their old video is being falsely associated with the Pahalgam attack victims.

In a video message, the couple said, "We are alive. We don’t understand why our video is being circulated on Indian media as if we were victims. It is extremely distressing for us and our families."

They further urged Indian news channels and newspapers to stop spreading misinformation using their images and videos.

The actual victim, Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, was indeed killed in the Pahalgam attack.

A verified image of Narwal lying on the ground, with his grieving wife by his side, went viral shortly after the incident. However, the unrelated video of Sehrawat and Sharma has no connection to the tragedy and was wrongly attributed to the deceased couple.
