The Interior Minister of Sindh sought an investigation report regarding the attack on President of the Karachi Bar Association Aamir Warraich, who was assaulted by unknown men on Tuesday night. The attack allegedly occurred because Warraich resisted the controversial construction of canals on the Indus River.

A video statement issued by Warraich himself showed him injured, in which he stated that he was assaulted by six individuals on Karachi’s II Chundrigar Road while sitting at a café.

He attributed the attack to his opposition to Punjab’s plan to build new canals on the Indus River to facilitate corporate farming under the Green Pakistan Initiative. He claimed the project ignored Sindh’s objections, arguing it would exacerbate the water conflict between the two provinces.

In his video statement, Warraich issued a deadline for Punjab’s decision, stating that protestors would block the Punjab-Sindh border if the decision was not reversed before his protest.

He said that despite the attack, he would not back down from the protest, nor would the lawyers' convention scheduled for April 12 be canceled.

In addition to the investigation, Syed Asad Raza, DIG South, confirmed that Aamir Warraich regularly meets with fellow lawyers at Café Boogie at the city station, where the attack occurred during one such meeting.

Raza suggested that the incident appeared to be the result of a scuffle that left Warraich injured. However, the police are collecting evidence and statements from eyewitnesses.

He added that lawyers, who sustained injuries due to the feud, were not ready to register the first information report (FIR).

Following the release of Warraich's video, the Interior Minister took notice of the incident and directed the police to provide detailed reports of their actions.

He emphasized that those involved in the attack should be brought to justice, and that the investigation should proceed with the legal community’s cooperation.

The home minister also directed that the investigation be thorough and effective, based on the evidence collected at the scene.
