Once again, tensions have escalated in Muzaffarabad city, Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), prompting authorities to reimpose internet shutdowns amid protests over electricity and tax grievances.

Protesters in Muzaffarabad clashed with Rangers personnel, hurling stones and causing damage to Rangers vehicles. In response, the Rangers resorted to dispersing the protesters with tear gas.

Representatives from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) asserted their commitment to continue protesting until their demands are met and official notifications are issued by the authorities.

Earlier in the day, in response to the violent demonstrations in the valley, the Azad Kashmir (AJK) government sanctioned reductions in electricity and flour prices.

The AJK government acceded to the demands put forth by the Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (JAAC), resulting in the slashing of wheat flour prices by Rs 1100 per 40 kg bag, from Rs 3100 to Rs 2000, as outlined in a notification issued in Rawalakot.

Furthermore, the government greenlit a reduction in electricity tariffs. According to the notification, domestic consumers utilizing up to 100 units will be billed at Rs 3 per unit, while those consuming 101-300 units will be charged Rs 5 per unit. Consumers exceeding 300 units will incur charges at Rs 6 per unit.
