Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed on Saturday that Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire, following high-level diplomatic mediation, including efforts by US President Donald Trump.

Speaking to a private news channel, shortly after the announcement, Dar stated, “Both countries have agreed on a ceasefire at 4:30 pm. We are ready for peace, but if India commits any aggression, we will respond accordingly.”

The Deputy Premier expressed gratitude to international mediators who played a role in facilitating the agreement, saying, “We thank all those from various countries who contributed to securing this ceasefire.”

Dar emphasised Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace while underscoring its right to self-defence.

“I am pleased to announce that Pakistan and India have agreed to an immediate ceasefire,” he said.

“Despite the escalations we witnessed yesterday, Pakistan responded with dignity and defended itself vigorously.”

Reiterating Pakistan’s longstanding position, he added, “We have always sought peace in the region, but not at the expense of our sovereignty or territorial integrity.”

The ceasefire brings a temporary halt to days of heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, following a series of military strikes and counterstrikes across the Line of Control and beyond.

International observers have welcomed the development, calling for sustained dialogue and confidence-building measures to prevent further escalation.
