A young philanthropic worker from Islamabad, Shehzad Durrani, earned praise on social media after he came to the aid of an elderly man suffering from Parkinson’s disease, who was selling tasbeehs on the streets to make ends meet.

Durrani, who has long been involved in humanitarian efforts, noticed the elderly man while passing by and was moved by his condition. He took the man to his home and later shared his heartbreaking story with his followers on Instagram.

The elderly man revealed that after suffering a stroke, his sons abandoned him and mistreated him. While his daughters continued to care for him, he still chose to earn a livelihood on his own rather than depend on anyone.

He also shared that he had tried to seek financial support through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) but was denied assistance due to a lack of proper documentation.

“I have a certificate of my disability, but I haven’t received any support from BISP or the government,” the man said.

Deeply moved, Durrani pledged to ensure the elderly man would never have to work again. He arranged a monthly stipend, took him for medical treatment, and even facilitated the process of making a passport so that the man could perform Umrah.

Durrani’s act of kindness is just one of many. He recalled that his philanthropic journey began during his university years, inspired by a similar encounter.

“One day, I was returning from university in sweltering heat when I saw an elderly man selling tasbeehs and miswak, constantly wiping his sweat. I stopped to speak with him. He told me how his home was small and damaged. I helped him that day, and his smile gave me the motivation to keep doing this.”

Durrani shared that in those early days, he didn’t record or publicise his charitable work. But over time, he realised that sharing these stories could inspire others to extend a helping hand in their own communities.

“I never used to make videos before, but now I feel it’s important to show others how one small act of kindness can change a life,” he said.

Social media users have praised Durrani’s compassion and sincerity, with many offering financial support to help him continue assisting more people in need.
