Karachi: 48,000 e-challans issued in 14 days, 4,500 citizens approached for waiver

Karachi Police, under the Track and Track system, issued 48,211 e-challans to citizens for traffic violations over a period of 14 days, while around 4,500 citizens approached for waivers.
According to traffic police, during the period from October 27 to November 9, the highest number of e-challans, 31,555, were issued for not wearing seatbelts, followed by 8,431 for not wearing helmets and 2,304 for overspeeding.
Other violations included 2,009 challans for signal violations, 1,263 for using mobile phones while driving, 670 for tinted windows, 585 for fancy number plates, 556 for wrong way driving, and 368 for allowing passengers to sit on vehicle roofs.
Additional challans were issued for no parking (250), stop line violations (233), improper loading/overloading (132), lane discipline violations (65), and wrong-way driving on one way streets (58).

The traffic police spokesperson stated that no e-challans have been issued so far for tax non payment. Over the 14-day period, around 4,800 citizens visited traffic police facilitation centers after receiving their e-challans.
Of these, over 90% were waived, while the remaining cases were forwarded to a special committee for review, which will decide the final outcome.
