The All Dumper Truck Owners Association on Tuesday announced that dumper trucks will not be used to lift and dispose of the offal of sacrificial animals in Karachi during Eidul Azha this year.
In a statement on social media, the association’s president Haji Liaqat Mehsood said that the Sindh government and the Karachi commissioner had imposed unjust restrictions on the movement of dumper trucks in various areas, creating severe operational difficulties for the owners.
"If we are not allowed equal movement rights in the city like other heavy vehicles, why should we take responsibility for offal collection?" he questioned.
Mehsood criticised the provincial authorities for failing to respond seriously to recent incidents where dumper trucks were set on fire and said the affected owners received no financial assistance or compensation from the government.
“We pay taxes regularly, and it is the state’s duty to ensure the safety of our lives and property,” he asserted.
The association has demanded immediate government action to resolve their issues.
These include lifting movement restrictions on dumper trucks and providing compensation to owners whose vehicles were damaged.
Failing to address these concerns, Mehsood warned, could result in a severe sanitation crisis in Karachi during Eidul Azha. He stressed that the Sindh government would be held fully responsible for any such situation.
