Chief Meteorologist Ameer Haider has stated that the recent tremors felt across Karachi are the result of seismic activity along the Landhi fault line, which is currently undergoing a normalization process.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, he revealed that since Sunday evening, the city has experienced 18 tremors, all attributed to the reactivation of the Landhi fault line.
He further explained that the fault line is gradually returning to a stable state, and minor tremors may continue for up to a week. According to Haider, the slow release of seismic energy reduces the risk of a major earthquake.
The chief meteorologist noted that this is the first time in decades that the Landhi fault line has become active. Due to the shallow depth of the tremors, their intensity has been more strongly felt.

He emphasized that buildings situated on the fault line should be capable of withstanding earthquakes of up to 6.0 magnitude.
He also pointed out that historical records already mark the presence of fault lines in Karachi.
If cracks are appearing in buildings, he added, the issue likely lies with the structural integrity and quality of construction.
