Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab said he sought the assistance of the Pakistan Army in rescue operations as several parts of Karachi were flooded following heavy rainfall, the filling of Thado Dam, and an unprecedented surge in the Malir and Lyari rivers.

Speaking to the media last night, Wahab said that a request for support was made to the Army through the chief secretary.

High water levels in Thado Dam caused the river to rise, and floodwaters later entered nearby residential areas.

Overflowing streams from Lyari River caused water to enter homes in FB Area, Shafiq Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal UC-1, Goharabad, Hassan Naumani Colony, Sohrab Goth, and near Lyari Bakra Piri, leaving residents stranded as water levels rose several feet.

Other localities, including Machhar Colony, Nishar Basti, and Essa Nagri, also reported floodwaters entering homes.

Meanwhile, teams from the Pakistan Army and Rescue 1122 launched operations in several areas.
