The alleged supply of dead chicken meat to various fast food outlets and biryani centers in the city has come to light following a police raid in Karachi's Moosa Colony.
Authorities seized 80 kilograms of substandard chicken meat during a raid on a warehouse located near the Railway Gate in Federal B Area.
The operation was initiated following a tip-off. Police had previously sent a 1 kg sample of biryani from a local food center to the Sindh Food Control Authority for laboratory testing, which confirmed the substandard quality of the meat.
Police arrested two individuals named Anwar alias Ali Bengali and Kamal, in connection with the large seizure.
Police stated that they had received a tip-off about the presence of dead chickens being stored in the warehouse for distribution. Acting on the information, a team raided the location and discovered a large quantity of expired and decomposed chicken meat.
The raid on the warehouse was planned on a tipoff as police sent 1kg briytani from a food center to Sindh Food Control Authority for lab test where it was revealed that the meat was substandard.
Authorities believe the suspects had been supplying the meat to fast food centers, biryani points, and local hotels across Karachi. However, the duration of the illegal trade and the full list of establishments involved are still under investigation.
A formal case has been registered against the accused on the basis of a government complaint, while further investigations are underway to trace others linked to the operation.
