Kashmiris across the world are observing Black Day today to mark six years since the Indian government’s controversial and unconstitutional move to revoke the special status of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

On August 5, 2019, the Bharatiya Janata Party government led by far-right Prime Minister Narendra Modi unilaterally abolished Articles 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution, stripping the region of its autonomy and imposing a military lockdown in the valley.

This move was widely condemned by Kashmiris, human rights groups, and international observers for violating the democratic rights of the Kashmiri people.

Since then, Kashmiris living on both sides of the Line of Control and across the globe have continued to reject the decision. Every year on this day, they hold protests, rallies, and processions to raise their voices against what they call the illegal occupation of their land by India.

Despite the passage of six years, the Kashmiri people's resolve remains unwavering. They have vowed to continue their struggle for the right to self-determination and complete independence.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has called on the people to observe August 5 as Black Day, stating that it sends a strong message to the world that India's actions in Kashmir are illegal and unacceptable under international law.

The Pakistani armed forces have reiterated their complete solidarity with the people of occupied Kashmir, who are fighting for their right to self-determination.

On August 5, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, the Chief of Naval Staff, and the Chief of Air Staff joined the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a unified statement of support.

The statement highlighted that the Kashmiri struggle aligns with international law and UN Security Council resolutions, and called India's occupation of the region a violation of international norms.
