The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly is set to get its second female deputy speaker as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nominated Suriya Bibi for the constitutional post.
Suriya Bibi was nominated by PTI founder Imran Khan himself as the latter wanted to give this coveted post to a female, again.
In the February 8 polls, the PTI-backed candidate also went down in history as the first woman from KP's Upper Chitral to be elected on a general seat.
Suraya secured over 18,000 votes against Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam's (JUI-F) Shakeel Ahmad, who clinched over 10,000 votes.
Earlier, Dr Mehar Taj Roghani was elected as the first-ever woman deputy speaker of the KP assembly in the year 2015.
Roghani, who hails from Mardan, was the nominee of the treasury benches and belonged to the then-ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
However, PTI is all set to form its government in the provincial legislature for the third consecutive term with the support of over 80 lawmakers.
