The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced fresh measures to ensure the protection of women in the province, including installing CCTV cameras at higher education institutions and obliging the administration to adhere to harassment laws.

The sources said that the authorities have been ordered to comply with the Work Place Act 2010 related to the safety and security of females.

The Higher Education Department has issued a notification highlighting the necessity of complying with this legislation. The notification details plans to implement the Higher Education Commission's (HEC) anti-harassment policy effectively.

The key actions related to providing a safe environment in workplaces and educational institutions have been included in the plan, focusing on preventing harassment incidents.

As part of surveillance, CCTV cameras will be installed in the women’s hostels, and prompt investigation will be conducted for any reported harassment incident.

The notification states that disciplinary actions will be implemented against individuals found responsible in accordance with institutional policies.

To improve student safety, several committees will be established, including a student council, an anti-harassment team, and a peer support group. These initiatives aim to create a secure and supportive environment for female students and staff in KP.
