A suspect arrested from Pak Colony has died under mysterious circumstances while in police custody, officials said on Thursday.

According to details, the body of the deceased, identified as 40-year-old Shahzaib, was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for legal formalities.

DIG South Zone Asad Raza took notice of the incident and ordered a transparent and impartial inquiry into the death. He has also sought a detailed report from the SSP of District Keamari.

Police said the deceased was allegedly a drug addict who was arrested earlier in the day and kept in lock-up. They added that his condition deteriorated while in custody, after which he was being shifted to hospital, but he died on the way.

Authorities said the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem examination.
