A man killed his wife’s brother-in-law after failing to receive ransom payment in Karachi, according to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), which arrested the suspect and discovered the victim’s lifeless body.
Police stated that the incident took place in Karachi’s Kaneez Fatima Society, where the suspect abducted and murdered his sister-in-law’s husband after the victim's family reportedly failed to pay a ransom of Rs 3,000,000.
Aneel Haider, SSP AVCC, speaking to the media, said that on January 20, a man named Rizwan, the victim’s brother, called the police and reported that his 34-year-old brother, Iqbal, who ran a cabin, had gone missing since January 19.
Police registered the first information report (FIR) on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Rizwan, and the case was referred to the AVCC after a ransom call.

Kamran, a relative, said they received a ransom call the day after Iqbal’s abduction, but the suspect did not allow them to speak with Iqbal.
Following the registration of the complaint, police arrested suspect Rameez, who is the brother-in-law of Iqbal’s wife.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and revealed the location of Iqbal’s body.
Rameez had disposed of the victim’s body in a drum, which was found in the parking area of a private apartment building.

“It is not yet clear how the victim was killed; however, the cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem,” said Aneel Haider.
The investigation revealed that the suspect had abducted the victim under the pretext of giving him a ride home. While en route, a feud broke out between them.
During a heated argument, the accused injured Iqbal by hitting him on the head with a stick.
Later, the suspect somehow managed to trick the injured Iqbal into bringing him to his residence, where he kept him there for a day, and confiscated his phone as well.

According to the police, the suspect had been searching for the victim along with his family for a day but did not reveal about the victim.
The police had advised the victim’s family to keep things secret from Rameez, suspecting that the accused was obtaining information through the family.
Kamran added that the suspect had no enmity with Rameez and they use to meet occassionally.
