Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded US President Donald Trump for his role in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, calling him a “man of peace.”

Speaking at a ceremony marking the United States’ Independence Day at the US Embassy, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for President Trump’s efforts toward global peace and economic stability.

“President Trump has shown beyond any ray of doubt and imagination that he is a man of peace. He is amn who is against cold war and hot war and wants the humantiy to live in tranquility." PM Shehbaz said during his address.

He went on to condemn Indian aggression, stating that India falsely accused Pakistan of orchestrating the Pahalgam incident, an alleged false flag operation, and responded with military hostility.

The Prime Minister recalled that on May 6 and 7, Indian attacks claimed the lives of 33 Pakistani civilians, including children and the elderly, and injured many others. In response, he said, Pakistan exercised its right to self-defence and shot down six Indian aircraft.

Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan accepted the ceasefire once it was proposed and acknowledged the support of friendly countries, including the United States, in facilitating de-escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

He emphasised the evolving relationship between the US and Pakistan, expressing optimism about the future.

The Prime Minister congratulated the American people on the occasion of their Independence Day and noted that the US was among the first countries to recognise Pakistan after its founding.

Highlighting the shared democratic values and constitutional traditions between the two countries, Shehbaz Sharif said the bilateral relationship has spanned decades.

The US has supported Pakistan's economic growth through various initiatives over the years since 1950, he noted.

Shehbaz also reflected on Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. After 9/11, Pakistan stood on the frontlines in the global war on terror. We lost over 90,000 lives and suffered economic losses exceeding $150 billion, he said.

He further revealed that efforts are underway to boost economic cooperation with the United States, particularly in trade, investment, and technology.
