Maryam Nawaz’s security team undergoes comprehensive screening after crackdown on TLP

LAHORE: A comprehensive screening of all security personnel attached to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s security team has been initiated, official sources confirmed on Saturday.

The move comes in the wake of a recent government crackdown on a radical group, and aims to ensure thorough background verification of all individuals linked to the chief minister’s security detail.

The development follows the federal interior ministry’s decision to ban the hardline organisation for its alleged involvement in acts of terrorism. The group had recently staged violent demonstrations across Punjab.

According to police sources, the ongoing screening covers staff deployed from Jati Umra — the CM’s residence — to the Chief Minister’s Office, including not only police and security officials but also civilian staff members.

The process reportedly includes an assessment of the religious and political affiliations of personnel. Any individual found to have ties with the banned group or any suspicious organisation will be immediately removed from duty, sources said.

Officials emphasized that the measure is a preventive security step aimed at ensuring Maryam Nawaz’s safety and maintaining the integrity of the security apparatus.

A comprehensive report on the screening results will be submitted to senior authorities upon completion for further review and necessary action.
