The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast the arrival of monsoon rains in Karachi as a new weather system approaches.

According to PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazir, the monsoon system is expected to impact the upper regions of the country on June 25 before extending its influence to Sindh, including Karachi, from June 26.

Under this system's sway, Karachi is likely to experience moderate to heavy monsoon showers, with the highest probability of heavy rainfall predicted for Saturday and Sunday. Rains are anticipated to begin in the city as early as Friday.

The PMD has warned that the incoming monsoon spell poses a risk of flooding in rivers and canals across the country.

Additionally, there is a heightened risk of landslides in mountainous regions such as Murree, Galiyat, Dir, Swat, and Kohistan.

The Met Department has issued a warning for potential inundation of low-lying areas in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Lahore. Furthermore, there is a specific risk of urban flooding in Karachi and Hyderabad between June 26 and 28.
