LAHORE: PML-N President Nawaz Sharif left for Switzerland on Thursday for a routine medical examination.
After participating in election activities in Gilgit-Baltistan earlier in the week, Nawaz departed for Geneva on a private trip, reportedly travelling via Turkish Airlines. Sources said he is expected to remain in Europe for about a week for medical consultations.
As is customary, members of his personal staff did not provide details regarding the visit.
Since the PML-N returned to power, Nawaz Sharif has maintained a relatively low public profile, with only limited information about his engagements being shared with the media.
His departure comes ahead of the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, where the party is facing a competitive political environment. Observers have noted that recent PML-N gatherings in the region have drawn comparatively smaller crowds than some rallies held by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Political analysts also suggest that public reaction to the government's stance on regional developments may have influenced voter sentiment in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
