Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has nominated Barrister Syed Iftikhar Ali Gilani as the party’s candidate for prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
PML-N leader Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Thursday that Nawaz had directed Gilani to submit his nomination papers for the AJK prime minister’s election.
According to Aurangzeb, Gilani’s nomination was made with Nawaz’s approval.
Gilani was elected to the AJK Legislative Assembly on a reserved seat for technocrats after the PML-N secured six of the eight reserved seats.
The PML-N won three of the five seats reserved for women, as well as the seats for technocrats, Ulema and Mashaikh, and overseas Kashmiris. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) won the remaining two women’s seats.
PML-N candidates Seharish Qamar, Maryam Zaman and Maryam Idrees were elected on the women’s reserved seats, while PPP candidates Farzana Yaqub and Zobia Khurshid secured the other two.
