Noreen Niazi obtains transit bail from Peshawar High Court in Peca case

Jailed PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Noreen Niazi has been granted transit bail by the Peshawar High Court in a case filed against her by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

A single-member bench headed by Justice Arshad Ali allowed Niazi’s request for transit pre-arrest bail on Monday and asked her to seek bail from the relevant court in Islamabad by August 20.

The case was registered at the NCCIA police station in Islamabad on July 27 under provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) 2016 and the Pakistan Penal Code.

Niazi, represented by lawyers including Ali Zaman, Amir Zeb and Barrister Sarwar Muzaffar Shah, informed the court that she had been wrongly nominated in the case.

The petition argued that the FIR contained allegations against her but did not point to any solid evidence establishing her involvement in the alleged offence.

The NCCIA had booked Niazi in July over remarks it described as derogatory and inflammatory towards state institutions. The remarks were allegedly made during a podcast and later circulated through clips posted on X.

After examining the petition, the PHC found grounds to entertain her request and granted her interim transit bail. The court set bail bonds at Rs80,000 and required two sureties from Niazi.

The relief will remain in force until August 20, by which time she has been directed to appear before the competent court in Islamabad and seek further bail.
