The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has said that 97 per cent of the country’s population is officially registered, according to its annual report submitted to the Ministry of Interior.

The authority also released a one-year performance update through a video statement by its spokesperson Shabahat Ali, outlining registration statistics and operational developments.

According to the spokesperson, the number of registered citizens has reached 227 million, accounting for 97pc of the population. Of those recorded, 48pc are women while 52pc are men.

He said that births of 31.9 million children have been registered at union councils but those children have not yet completed registration with Nadra.

The video statement said that Nadra’s biometric database currently holds facial identification data for 170 million individuals, along with 1.68 billion fingerprints and iris data of around seven million people.

The spokesperson said that overall registrations rose by 11pc, while child registrations increased by 18pc and women’s registrations by 8pc.

He added that Nadra operates 938 registration centres across the country. During 2025, 75 additional centres and 138 new service counters were established, and services for overseas Pakistanis were expanded.

According to the spokesperson, the Pak-ID mobile application now handles about 15pc of Nadra’s workload, with downloads exceeding 12 million.
