Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that petrol and diesel prices will remain unchanged across the country.

In an address to the nation, he stated that a proposal had been presented to increase petrol prices by Rs95 and diesel by Rs203, which he rejected.

He said the federal government has decided to absorb an additional burden of Rs56 billion this week.

The prime minister added that, based on current calculations, petrol should have been priced at Rs544 per litre, but the government is providing it at Rs322, while diesel should have been Rs790 per litre but is being sold at Rs335.

He emphasised that his priority is the economic protection of the public, noting that global fuel prices have doubled, while the government has prevented this inflationary pressure from being passed on to citizens.

He further said Pakistan is actively engaged on the diplomatic front to ensure regional peace and is successfully managing efforts on two fronts.

He added that efforts are underway to protect the region and allied countries from a devastating war, noting that he has held detailed discussions with leaders of Iran and Gulf states.
