At least one person was killed and five others were injured after an explosion ripped through a tyre puncture and gas welding shop near Safora Chowrangi in Karachi.

According to police and rescue officials, six people sustained burn injuries in the blast and were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment. One of the injured, identified as 35-year-old Waqas, later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The injured included 10-year-old Sikandar, 40-year-old Owais, 30-year-old Abdul Hanan, and Abid, while the identity of one victim could not immediately be confirmed.

The police said the deceased, Waqas, owned the tyre shop. He added that vehicle sensor repair work involving gas welding was also being carried out adjacent to the shop, where a small gas cylinder reportedly exploded during routine work.
