The Passport and Immigration Department has placed over 50,000 passports on a blacklist, following recommendations from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to address the rising issue of illegal migration to European nations.
In addition, the passports of numerous Pakistani citizens have been revoked as part of this enforcement initiative.
This action was prompted by the tragic loss of Pakistani lives in maritime accidents and is intended to deter illegal migration, with the Ministry of Interior implementing stringent measures under the guidance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Government officials disclosed that all individuals deported since 2017 have had their passports blacklisted to discourage attempts to reach Europe through unlawful and perilous routes.
This decision was made after a task force meeting where the Prime Minister sought clarification from the FIA regarding measures taken against deported individuals, to which the Director General of FIA was unable to provide a satisfactory answer.
In response to the Prime Minister’s instructions, the FIA submitted lists of deported individuals to the Ministry of Interior, resulting in the blacklisting of their passports.
Nevertheless, sources indicated that individuals holding valid visas and legal documentation may appeal for a review of their blacklisted status.
The Ministry of Law has also been engaged to evaluate cases where judicial decisions might influence the outcomes of blacklisting.
