Pakistan expects to host a second round of talks between the United States and Iran next week, aimed at reviving stalled negotiations to end their ongoing conflict, Anadolu Agency reports, citing two Pakistani government sources.
According to the report, Islamabad is optimistic that both sides could reach a preliminary understanding ahead of Donald Trump’s planned visit to China on May 14-15.
It said that officials believe recent developments — including a pause in Washington’s “Operation Freedom” and the release of a seized Iranian vessel along with its crew — could help create momentum for the talks.
Most of the issues between Washington and Tehran have already been resolved, but disagreements over the nuclear programme remain the main obstacle, the report said.
Earlier, the United States had rejected Iran’s proposal to delay nuclear talks while expanding the agenda to include the Strait of Hormuz.
