The Ministry of Finance has announced the opening of an account for the Gaza-Lebanon Relief Fund.
According to a report by Dawn News, a notification has been issued stating that funds under this relief initiative can be deposited into all scheduled banks, including the State Bank and National Bank.
The notification specifies that the fund will be managed by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
It is noteworthy that the federal cabinet approved the establishment of a Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to assist those affected by Israeli atrocities in Palestine and Lebanon during its meeting yesterday.
This approval was granted under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, where the cabinet also directed the State Bank to open an account for this purpose.
Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal will oversee the relief operations for Palestine and Lebanon.
The Prime Minister instructed the formulation of a relief program for Palestine within three days, emphasizing that as a nation, we must mobilize to support our Palestinian brothers under the threat of Zionist forces.
The government is also working to repatriate 71 Pakistani citizens stranded in Lebanon via Damascus.
During the briefing at the meeting, the Prime Minister was informed that since October 2023, Pakistan has dispatched ten shipments totaling 1,810 tons of medicines, food supplies, clothing, and other relief items to Palestine.
Further measures are being taken to repatriate additional Pakistani citizens from war-torn areas.
The Prime Minister had previously directed the formulation of a relief program for Palestine within three days, stating that it is crucial for the nation to be proactive in aiding Palestinian brothers facing oppression from Zionist forces.
He also called for the involvement of prominent NGOs in relief efforts and urged the provision of educational facilities for as many students from Gaza as possible in Pakistan, ensuring participation from both public and private educational institutions.
