The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has revealed its partnership on a pioneering lunar exploration mission alongside China's Chang'E 8 program, scheduled for launch in 2028.
Weighing approximately 35 kilograms, Suparco's rover will be included in China's Chang'E 8 mission, which is a component of the broader International Lunar Research Station (ILRS) initiative.
The rover is intended to touch down at the lunar south pole, an area recognized for its difficult terrain and the potential for significant scientific findings.
The objective of this mission is to survey the Moon's surface, perform scientific investigations, and assess innovative technologies for upcoming lunar and planetary ventures.
The mission will consist of multiple scientific tests, such as analyzing lunar soil, charting the lunar surface, and evaluating new technologies aimed at supporting sustainable human activity on the Moon.
Equipped with advanced scientific instruments, Suparco's rover will be vital in gathering data that could facilitate future lunar excursions.
