The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) is preparing to introduce a series of digital facilitation measures, including nationwide home delivery of passports and an AI-based chatbot to assist applicants, Passport DG Muhammad Ali Randhawa said on Sunday.

The planned reforms aim to reduce procedural delays, improve public access to services, and further shift the passport system towards digital and cashless operations.

According to Randhawa, applicants will soon be able to receive passports at their doorstep under a courier-based delivery system being developed in consultation with a logistics company.

“Applicants will soon have the option to get passports delivered to their doorsteps,” he said, adding that once an agreement is finalised, the service will be launched across the country from Islamabad. He said the facility would initially be available within Pakistan and later extended to overseas Pakistanis.

He also announced the introduction of a chatbot to guide applicants regarding procedures, document requirements and application status updates. “Meanwhile, a chatbot will also be launched soon,” he said, adding that it would reduce pressure on the call centre, which is being expanded.

Randhawa said proposals for full online passport applications were also under serious consideration. Officials are evaluating either a dedicated mobile application or expansion of the NADRA Pak-ID system to include passport services.
