Islamabad: Pakistan’s Information Minister has said that Afghan Taliban forces opened unprovoked fire at multiple locations along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), prompting what he described as an immediate and effective response from Pakistan’s security forces.
According to the minister, the firing occurred across several sectors, including Chitral, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram and Bajaur. He stated that Pakistan’s forces responded promptly, claiming that Afghan Taliban positions had suffered significant damage.
“Taliban regime forces miscalculated and opened unprovoked fire,” the minister said, adding that early reports indicated heavy casualties on the Afghan side, with multiple posts and equipment allegedly destroyed.
He further asserted that Pakistan would take all necessary measures to ensure its territorial integrity and the safety and security of its citizens.
There was no immediate official response from the Afghan authorities regarding the claims. Border tensions between the two countries have flared intermittently in recent years, particularly along sensitive frontier areas in KP.
